ScienceDaily (Aug. 18, 2010) — Regular beer — but not light beer or other types of alcohol — appears to be associated with an increased risk of developing psoriasis, according to a report posted online that will be published in the December print issue of Archives of Dermatology, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.

“Psoriasis is a common immune-mediated skin disease,” the authors write as background information in the article. “The association between alcohol consumption and increased risk of psoriasis onset and psoriasis worsening has long been suspected. For example, individuals with psoriasis drink more alcohol than individuals without psoriasis, and alcohol intake may exacerbate psoriasis severity.”

For other diseases, type of alcoholic beverage has been shown to influence risk — for instance, beer confers a larger risk for gout than wine or spirits. To evaluate the association between different types of alcohol and psoriasis risk, Abrar A. Qureshi, M.D., M.P.H., of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, assessed data from 82,869 women who were age 27 to 44 years in 1991. The women, participants in the Nurses’ Health Study II, reported the amount and type of alcohol they consumed on biennial questionnaires. They also reported whether they had received a diagnosis of psoriasis.

Through 2005, 1,150 cases of psoriasis developed, 1,069 of which were used for analysis. Compared with women who did not drink alcohol, the risk of psoriasis was 72 percent greater among women who had an average of 2.3 drinks per week or more. When beverages were assessed by type, there was an association between non-light beer drinking and psoriasis, such that women who drank five or more beers per week had a risk for the condition that was 1.8 times higher. Light beer, red wine, white wine and liquor were not associated with psoriasis risk.

When only confirmed psoriasis cases — those in which women provided more details about their condition on a seven-item self-assessment — were considered, the risk for psoriasis was 2.3 times higher for women who drank five or more beers per week than women who did not drink beer.

“Non-light beer was the only alcoholic beverage that increased the risk for psoriasis, suggesting that certain non-alcoholic components of beer, which are not found in wine or liquor, may play an important role in new-onset psoriasis,” the authors write. “One of these components may be the starch source used in making beer. Beer is one of the few non-distilled alcoholic beverages that use a starch source for fermentation, which is commonly barley.” Barley and other starches contain gluten, to which some individuals with psoriasis show a sensitivity. Lower amounts of grain are used to make light beer as compared with non-light beer, potentially explaining why light beer was not associated with psoriasis risk, they note.

“Women with a high risk of psoriasis may consider avoiding higher intake of non-light beer,” the authors conclude. “We suggest conducting further investigations into the potential mechanisms of non-light beer inducing new-onset psoriasis.”

Our diet plays an important role in determining the state of our health due to which one of the earliest learning lessons imparted to human beings concerns the cultivation of good eating habits.

For “Yeast Free Cooking” Tips and Recipes click here

It has indeed been observed that healthy eating habits which are ingrained and built during childhood remain with the individual right till his last days and are the main reason behind his longstanding good health and over-all well being. This truth stands vindicated by the evidence that the propensity towards fast food which is the hallmark of the present generation has been responsible for the burgeoning of many unexpected health maladies among people. Based on this observation, people are being strongly advised to revert back the healthy eating habits of the past which would not only improve their physical health but boost the immune system as well thus enabling them to ward off unwanted diseases and disorders.

A good diet is particularly imperative for psoriasis patients as it is one of the natural remedies which make a significant contribution towards the treatment of this repulsive skin condition. Although the occurrence of psoriasis is mainly attributed to genetic factors, the possibility of the occurrence of this disease due to the high concentration of toxins acquired through the consumption of food is not completely ruled out. Toxins are known to suppress the immune system of the body eventually causing it to malfunction and the outcome presents itself in form of red scaly patches of skin, medically termed as psoriasis. Therefore, one of foremost diet suggestions pertaining to psoriasis is to eat wisely by selecting food stuffs which would not load the body with poisonous and harmful toxins.

Being a non-contagious skin condition, psoriasis is directly related to the function of liver and due to this psoriasis patients are strongly advised to take good care of their liver. Since malfunctioning of liver interferes with the effective and complete elimination of toxins from the body, care should be taken not to place undue stress on this particular internal organ by consuming as pure and unrefined a diet as possible. An ideal diet in this regard would be one which is rich in raw fruits and vegetables and completely prohibits the inclusion of alcohol, red meat, tea, coffee and to a certain extent citrus fruits.

Psoriasis and Diet suggestions for psoriasis patients also recommend the consumption of supplements like cod liver oil, certain varieties of fish, evening primrose, kelp tablets for acquiring vitamins and minerals, herbal teas and foods rich in vitamins B6 and B12.

Psoriasis may be caused due to food allergy as well and some food groups which are suspected for playing the role of allergens are wheat and dairy products. This can be ascertained by the patient by trying an elimination diet under the able guidance of a certified and qualified naturopath.

Ultimately, transforming one’s diet in accordance with the dietary suggestions laid down for psoriasis patients is a personal decision which can be put into practice by paying close attention to labels while shopping and giving preference to fresh and organic products which are relatively free from chemicals and toxins.

Psoriasis arthritis is a type of psoriasis which affects the joints of hands and feet of the affected individual and is a chronic condition featuring skin inflammation with patchy, raised and red scaly areas. Being a systemic rheumatic disease, this condition shares its characteristics with other arthritic conditions as well and is usually observed to occur among men and women who belong to the forties and fifties age groups.

Since knowledge is the best defense against any disease, the following 10 facts listed here serve as important guidelines for psoriasis arthritis which every individual should be aware of:

  • Like its parent disease psoriasis, psoriasis arthritis is also chronic nature and the intensity of symptoms may vary from one individual to another. Therefore, while the symptoms may come and go in case of patients who suffer from the mild form of this disease, they may be more persistent and painful in case of patients who experience it more severe form.
  • Psoriasis arthritis is known to manifest itself in form of five clinical patterns and these are generally known to evolve from one another rather than existing exclusively. Some of the typical areas of the body which are affected from psoriasis arthritis are the large joints of the lower limbs, distal joints of fingers and toes and back and sacroiliac joints.
  • Since the exact cause of psoriasis is unknown, so also the exact cause of psoriasis arthritis is also yet to be determined. Although there is strong evidence to prove that genetic factors may be the main cause of this disease, the possible role of environmental factors and bacterial infections cannot be ruled out.
  • Although it is a form of psoriasis, only 15% of patients develop arthritis prior to psoriasis while in case of the majority 85% the symptoms of psoriasis manifest themselves much before the symptoms of arthritis.
  • The symptoms of psoriasis arthritis like painful and swollen joints are similar to medical conditions like gout and rheumatoid arthritis as well due to which the probability of misdiagnosis is very high. In such a situation, skin biopsies and observation of skin and nail changes are used to confirm the occurrence of psoriasis arthritis.
  • Patients who suffer from a mild form of psoriasis arthritis may experience periodic appearance and disappearance of symptoms and are therefore recommended to take medications only when the symptoms appear and refrain when they disappear.
  • The symptoms of psoriasis arthritis are liable to aggravate if the patient has a strong family history of psoriasis, suffers from the disease from a very young age, is already afflicted with other forms of arthritis and has extensive skin involvement.
  • Research has established that psoriasis arthritis usually occurs between 30-55 years of age and equally affects men as well as women. Likewise, while 95% of the patients of psoriasis arthritis suffer from swelling in joints, 80% are known to suffer from nail lesions.
  • The hereditary nature of psoriatic arthritis is further emphasized from the findings that the chances of it spreading between identical twins is as high as 70% while the chances of the disease being passed on to the next generation is higher with fathers than mothers.
  • Psoriasis arthritis does not co-exist with rheumatoid arthritis unless in extremely rare cases in which the latter is usually dominant.

Q:

Can being on antibiotics for a long time cause psoriasis to break out more?

A:

Antibiotics are frequently used in the treatment of psoriasis, particularly in children following streptococcal sore throats. There are also many experts who feel that psoriasis may be aggravated by surface bacteria. Hence, many patients are treated with antibiotics on a maintenance basis, sometimes on a long-term maintenance basis, for their psoriasis. Unless one develops an allergic reaction to the antibiotic which then possibly could develop into psoriasis, there is no evidence that being on antibiotics for a prolonged period of time may cause psoriasis to break out.

Q:

Is it safe to get a bikini wax? I don’t have any sign of genital psoriasis. Or am I just asking for trouble?

A:

There is always a potential risk of producing psoriasis in any area of irritated skin. For instance, females often develop tiny “spots” of psoriasis on their legs following repeated shaving, and males have similar problems in their beard area. I have also seen psoriasis develop in areas of a bikini wax but feel that this is only occasional a problem. I would strongly recommend the use of , moisturizers after a bikini wax to reduce irritation. Should psoriais develop, it should be very easily controlled with small amounts of topical cortisone preparations.

Q: I just had a baby. I have a moderate outbreak of psoriasis, including lesions on and between my breast. What topical medications can I use while nursing that will not cause harm to my baby? Also, is it safe to use tar products or Dovonex in areas of the body that are not near the breasts while breast feeding?

A: Psoriasis often improves during pregnancy and flares up subsequent to pregnancy as in your case. Small amounts of cortisone creams as well as tar preparations are safe to use while nursing and will not cause any harm to the baby. As it is unsure as to whether Dovonex is excreted in human milk, is is not advised that Daivonex be used while nursing. Therefore, it is suggested that even though you are not using Daivonex near your breasts that this should not be used at all while you are nursing.

Because Daivonex (Dovonex) is a synthetic derivative of Vitamin-D, it should be used sparingly. Although the U.S. package insert does not size a total amount per week, the European safety data suggests that no more than 100 gm per week of the ointment should be used in the average healthy adult.

With this dosage, abnormalities in in calcium metabolism which could possibly cause kidney stones, are highly unlikely. Therefore, it is prudent to restrict the total amount of Dovonex (Daivonex) to less than 100 gm per week if used for extended periods of time.

If you are curious what the effect might be of plastic or cosmetic surgery on psoriasis. Then I can only tell you what I read once.

The MD said that the only potential dangers with plastic surgery in patients with psoriasis would be the possibility of psoriasis developing within the scars of plastic surgery. This is not uncommonly seen when “face lifts” are performed, with psoriasis developing in the scars around the fringes of the scalp, particularly, behind the ears.

Likewise, “needle sticks” as would be utilized in liposuction could possibly lead to the production of psoriasis at the sites of the needle sticks. Your plastic surgeon should be warned of this possibility and a dermatologist consulted to reduce this risk

Yes, psoriasis in the genital region is distressing, but if it makes you feel alittle better, which I doubt, its common in many patients. The mere mention of genital psoriasis I’m sure makes most of us cringe:and cross our legs, and our eyes water at the thought of it all, and pray it doesn’t happen to us.

For some, psoriasis is just confined to the genital region. In men, parts affected are the penis, circumcised or not, the condition manifests itself as either small multiple red patches on the skin, scrotum, (occasionally scaly patches can occur, public area, (this often resembles scalp psoriasis), the anus, especially the crease between the buttocks, upper thighs adjacent to the groin, the psoriasis displaying itself usually as red sore looking patches, which are often non scaly in appearance, although possibly itchy sometimes, being most uncomfortable in hot weather due to heat and sweat. The skin affected between the buttocks can at times also appear cracked.

In women, the parts affected can be the perineum, (skin between the anal outlet) and vulva, as well as the skin around te anal outlet. The affected vulva can appear as smooth non-scaly redness, and may weep if it scratched too much, which is not advisable in case of infection, due to irritation.

Some of us may never have patches anywhere else on our bodies only than in the genital region, whilst for others, psoriasis appears on other parts of the body as well.

You are not going to like the next bit much either. But a word of cation needs to be said. If you think you suffer from this form of embarrassing psoriasis affliction in your nether regions, please get it looked at by your doctor or dermatologist, as it might not be genital psoriasis but something else which can be easily treated that has been caused by clothing or a yeast infection. For a few minutes mental discomfort at the mercy of your doctor, may put you out of your misery and gain some relief.

If you get a correct diagnosis you can get appropriate treatment, and there are things that can be done to help you. Have courage to bare all.

Psoriasis itself can cause many emotional problems for those of us who have the condition to conqueror at sometime in our lives, be it when we are young or older, but for those with genital psoriasis, the problem can be a nightmare, especially where new relationships are concerned. How do you explain what the sore, angry looking red patches are around your groin area, or to explain that your penis is not a harmful, contagious instrument to your partners vagina, but that you suffer from a common skin disorder that is frustrating, distressing and irritating but not harmful.

This subject is not the sort of thing you talk about over a first date romantic diner for two, but sooner or later you know you have to prepare yourself for those awful questions, and dread that first session of passion, where of course undressing is the name of the game. If the lights are out you can relax, and work on your plan of action on how to break the news to your new partner for the next time round.

Emotional turmoil and anxiety are foremost, but don’t be put off by embarking on relationships they are difficult to build on at the best of times. You are no lesser person for having a skin disorder than those who don’t

Hang Ups do not get any of us anywhere. An understanding partner makes the world of difference, so if you are starting out on new relationships, have confidence in yourself, take things slowly and gently, more importantly RELAX and enjoy your time together, building a firm relationship for the future

I thought I write a little Proz92 review and let you know about my experience with the product.

I ordered proz92 back in 2009 and used it for about 2 months, the experience was not very pleasant to put it mildly. So for starters you have to clean lesions with hydrogen-peroxide which if you have open lesions hurts already. Then you go to applying the proz92 which again hurts like crazy. I have to say the lesions start peeling as stated in the instructions. But the problem is they keep on peeling so if there is new skin it burns off as well and that way you irritate the skin and the P gets even worse

psoriasis cures proz92 reviews

Hang on I am not finished with the proz92 review yet :) or am I? No. To summarize it smells bad it hurts and it only made my psoriasis worse. Now I have to be fair this doesn’t mean it will not work for you as we all know that what works for one doesn’t work for another. Now that can goes both ways right what doesn’t work for one might work for the other

Dead Sea Psoriasis

I did give proz92 another try as my refund period was over before I decided this was not for me so I had one bottle left and tried it again and the same issues happened psoriasis got worse and applying the proz92 was hurting like hell again so I stopped it again after a month.

Now the statement they put on their website is a bit misleading to say the least, they say “ProZ92 is guaranteed to get you results or we’ll refund your purchase price.” I agree it gets you results but it would have been fair to say that it is not always a positive result as my experience shows.

I will go hunting for the next best psoriasis cure in the world at least I will read a lot because I have bought enough stuff now that doesn’t really work.

I have to say that at the moment I have my P kinda under control (knock on wood) but it is with a lot of sacrifice, I quite smoking, I quite drinking, I lost 25 LBS, take methotrexate and apply daivonex regularly now and the psoriasis is  slowly slowly  disappearing.

psoriasis-cure-bath-salts

So the conclusion of my proz92 review is that it didn’t work but i can not say proz92 is a scam as that would be very hard and I take it proz92 don’t want to risk a lawsuit. And as I said it might work for somebody else and I did read of some independent people stating proz92 worked for them

So much for my proz 92 review if you have any comments concerns please leave me a comment at the bottom of this proz92 reviews post

  • Keep your weight down (just started loosing weight myself and things work out)
  • Elimination of alcohol may be beneficial (just started this as well and I have to say it looks like my psoriasis is under control (knock on wood))
  • See your doctor even if you have only a mild case
  • Protect yourself against skin injuries as they can result in a worsening of the psoriasis (I have an example of this where I scratched my skin on coral while swimming and that happened 13 years ago and only now that spot is under control as well)
  • Avoid irritations such as plucking eyebrows ( I do this and yep there the psoriasis is not under control), getting soap under a ring (did that as well decided not to wear any jewelry anymore), wearing tight shoes (did that as well and see on both feet I have a little plaque), shaving legs with a dull razor (now I don’t shave my legs so can’t say anything there but i can imagine:))
  • Harsh chemicals and cosmetics such as depilatories can also increase redness and scarring
  • Get as much sun as possible, but avoid sunburn
  • Try a humidifier in your home especially when the air is dried out by heating
  • Protect yourself and especially children who have psoriasis from exposure to strep throat infections
  • Do not pick the scale off so that the lesion bleeds. this can reduce the effectiveness of any medication applied to the area
  • Keep the skin moist to avoid drying and cracking
  • Try to minimize anxiety as worry can, in some cases, aggravate psoriasis
  • Avoid prolonged exposure of the skin to rubber. Cotton gloves worn underneath rubber gloves can protect against irritation if prolonged wearing of rubber gloves is necessary
  • Consult your physician regarding long-term use of steroids. There are side effects that result from prolonged use of steroids
  • For psoriasis of the nails, the nails should be trimmed with a heavy manicure scissors all the way back until firm attachment at the bottom of the nail appears

daivonex psoriasis treatment

daivonex psoriasis treatment

Please read this leaflet carefully before you start your treatment.
Keep this leaflet. You may want to read it again.
What is in this leaflet?

This leaflet answers some common questions about using DAIVONEX. It does not contain all the available information. It does not take the place of talking to your doctor or pharmacist.

All medicines have risks and benefits. Your doctor has weighed the risks of you using DAIVONEX against the benefits it is expected to have for you.

If you have any concerns about using DAIVONEX, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
What DAIVONEX is used for

DAIVONEX is an anti-psoriasis medicine. DAIVONEX contains calcipotriol (related to Vitamin D). DAIVONEX does not contain steroids.

DAIVONEX is used only on skin affected by psoriasis. Psoriasis is a skin disorder in which skin cells are overactive. The calcipotriol in DAIVONEX treats the overactive skin cells.

DAIVONEX is used in the commonest type of psoriasis, where “plaques” form in the skin. Plaques are raised, rough, reddened areas covered with fine, dry silvery scales. Plaques are usually a centimeter or two across.

DAIVONEX preparations are available as ointment, cream and scalp solution.

DAIVONEX preparations are available only with a doctor’s prescription.

This medicine is not expected to affect your ability to drive a car or operate machinery.

This medicine is not addictive.
Before you use DAIVONEX
When you must not use DAIVONEX (All Preparations)

Do not use DAIVONEX if you have an allergy to:

* any medicine containing calcipotriol
* any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet (see Product description).

Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction include shortness of breath, wheezing or difficulty breathing; swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body; rash, itching or “hives” on the skin.

Do not use DAIVONEX for severe widespread psoriasis, or the types of psoriasis known as guttate, generalised pustular or erythrodermic exfoliative psoriasis. Your doctor will identify these conditions for you.

Do not use DAIVONEX if you

* have high blood calcium levels.
* are taking calcium, vitamin D supplements or vitamin D-like medicines, for example calcitriol.

Do not use DAIVONEX

* after the expiry date printed on the pack OR
* if the packaging is torn, doesn’t look quite right or shows signs of tampering.

If the DAIVONEX packaging is damaged or it is past the expiry date, return it to your pharmacist for disposal.

Do not breast-feed if you are using DAIVONEX on your breasts.

If you are not sure whether you should start using DAIVONEX, talk to your doctor.
When you must not use DAIVONEX Cream or Scalp Solution

Do not use DAIVONEX cream or scalp solution in children.
Safety and effectiveness of these forms of DAIVONEX in children have not been established.

DAIVONEX ointment may be used in children (see How to use DAIVONEX).

Do not use DAIVONEX cream or scalp solution if you are having other treatments for psoriasis.

DAIVONEX ointment may be used with some other treatments for psoriasis. Talk to your doctor to find out if this applies to you.
Before you start to use it

Tell your doctor if you have a known allergy to DAIVONEX or any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.

Tell your doctor if you

* have kidney or liver problems.
* are suffering from any other illness.

Tell your doctor if you

* are pregnant
* are breast-feeding
* intend to breast-feed.

If you have not told your doctor about any of the above, tell him/her before you start using this medicine.
Other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are on any other medicines, including any that you buy without a prescription from your pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.

Your doctor and pharmacist have more information on medicines you should be careful with or avoid whilst using DAIVONEX.

Keep DAIVONEX in the box until required.
Storage

Keep your DAIVONEX ointment or cream or scalp solution in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 25°C. However, do not keep DAIVONEX cream or ointment in the refrigerator as the cream or ointment will not spread easily.

Depending on the extend and type of psoriasis, our skin barrier is broken down causing the body difficulties in controlling its body temperature, increasing our susceptibility to de-hydration by excessive water loss and increasing the risk of invasion by foreign organisms.

This is why moisturizers are such an important adjunct to treating psoriasis. You must find a suitable product that suits your skin and life style and usually means an oily ointment type formulation to protect and reduce the drying out and cracking of the skin’s surface.

This does not have to be expensive or sophisticated, “light paraffin Oil” (baby oil without the perfume), obtainable from your chemist, mixed with “vaseline” if necessary so as to maintain a protective layer on the skin surface until your next application.

This combination is cheap and effective especially if large areas are involved. Use moisteriser when NOT applying topical medications so you do not dilute the effects of the prescribed treatments.

For guidance and the best treatment regimen to use with your topicals ask your health professional.

There are several types of psoraitic arthritis aka arthritis psoriasis- from a symmetrical arthritis of many joints that mimics rheumatoid arthritis, to arthritis affecting only the joints of the fingers and toes, to arthritis of the spine.

The common thread is pain, stiffness and swelling of the affected joints, occasionally with X-ray changes. If you have painful, swollen joints or morning stiffness that lasts for more than two weeks, and skin lesions of psoriasis, you should ask to be referred to a rheumatologist as well as your dermatologist.

Knowing different types of psoriasis improves discussions and decisions.

Knowing about different types of psoriasis can be a healthy start in taking charge in the management of the skin disorder. Good information can also deflect uninvited, ill-informed and well-meaning advice. These comments are often based on someone’s faulty idea of what psoriasis looks like or how it should be treated. Since people who have psoriasis are often called on to be educators, here some short descriptions of the forms psoriasis can take.

Plaque Psoriasis

Plaque psoriasis is the most common form of the skin disorder. The medical name is “psoriasis vulgaris” Vulgaris doesn’t mean that the disorder is vulgar or socially unacceptable. Instead , it is a Latin term for common or widespread. “Popular” might be another word to use. Plaque psoriasis lesions are usually red and dot-like to begin with. The eruptions enlarge and produce a silvery white surface scale. The plaques may eventually cover large areas of skin and can merge with other plaques.

Pustular Psoriasis

Pustular Psoriasis is less common, but the exact number who have it isn’t known. this form is usually seen as small blisters on the skin. The blisters are filled with white blood cells, but this is not a sign of an infection. The skin reddens, forms pustules and then scales off. In the most unusual cases, pustular psoriasis will occur during pregnancy or may start in the first year of life. There are more ordinary forms of pustular psoriasis:

  • Von Zumbusch type psoriasis tends to come on in widespread areas that dry and peel over one to two days. It may appear only once or it may occur many times. Patients are usually hospitalized.
  • Annular psoriasis consists of ring shaped lesions with a red, scaly pustular margin. The rapidly evolving pustules frequently last only a day before shedding. Annular psoriasis tends to be mild but chronic, lasting for months or years.
  • Exanthematic psoriasis is an acute eruption of pustules and redness. It can spread suddenly usually triggered by an infection. Once the infection is treated, the psoriasis usually clears.
  • Localized psoriasis is a chronic plaque psoriasis which can become unstable as pustules appear.
  • Palmar-Plantar pustulosis (PPP) remains confined to the palms of the hand and the soles of the feet. It can be chronic and difficult to treat

There are other, very unusual forms of psoriasis. Acrodermatitis continua of Hallopeau is a form of palmar-plantar psoriasis. It is characterized by lesions that form on the ends of the fingers and sometimes the toes. The nails are commonly deformed.

Guttate Psoriasis

Guttate is from the Latin word gutta, meaning “drop”. The lesions look like drops that appear on the trunk , limbs, and sometimes the scalp. It is most common in children and young adults. it sometimes follows a streptococcal infection or upper respiratory infection. The eruption initially consists of red dot like formations that later cover with scale. It appears and spreads over the body within a matter of days.

Inverse Psoriasis

This type of psoriasis is found in the armpit, groin, under the breast and other skin folds. Other typical sites are the genitals and surrounding areas, the folds of the groin, and the clefts between the buttocks. Also known as “flexural psoriasis” it is seen as large, dry, vividly red, smooth plaques.

Erythrodermic Psoriasis

Erythema means reddening. This rare type of psoriasis appears as a periodic, widespread reddening of the skin. The skin exfoliates or scales off, in patches. The process causes fluid, electrolyte and protein loss. Swelling and infection may appear and large amounts of body heat are lost. Hospitalization is usually necessary. Progress is variable. Erythrodermic psoriasis can change into a more benign and localized psoriasis, remain the same or spontaneously improve.

Nail Psoriasis

Nail Psoriasis usually shows up as pits of various sizes. The nail may come loose from the finger. The nails may crumble easily.

Face Psoriasis

Face psoriasis can appear in the ear or on the eyelids, on the face. It can cause inflammation of the membrane covering the eye. Small, fine bumps can develop on the inside of the eyelid. On rare occasions it can appear in the mouth, gums, tongue, inside the cheeks or on the lips. These lesions range in color from gray to white.

The common form that psoriasis takes is the “plaque”. Plaques are dull red in color and have waxy or silvery scales on top. Plaques result from thickening of the skin(epidermis and to a lesser extent dermis). This thickening in turn is due to the rapid growth of the psoriasis skin compared to the normal. The scales are due to a build-up of abnormal skin cells (which are usually shed).

Psoriasis of the palms and soles may appear different and may appear different and may take the form of sterile pustules (which have no germs or bacteria). The psoriasis pictures are some before and after pictures.
