Because Daivonex (Dovonex) is a synthetic derivative of Vitamin-D, it should be used sparingly. Although the U.S. package insert does not size a total amount per week, the European safety data suggests that no more than 100 gm per week of the ointment should be used in the average healthy adult.

With this dosage, abnormalities in in calcium metabolism which could possibly cause kidney stones, are highly unlikely. Therefore, it is prudent to restrict the total amount of Dovonex (Daivonex) to less than 100 gm per week if used for extended periods of time.
